International Museum Day Symposium 2022: The Power of Museums

Since 1977, International Museum Day (IMD) has been celebrated every 18 May. This year’s theme ‘The Power of Museums’ reminds us of museums’ position as an educational space that shapes people’s thoughts and behaviors about the past and the present. For 2022, the symposium is jointly oganised by ICOM Singapore, the National Heritage Board (NHB), and the Singapore Museum Roundtable. It invites 14 speakers from Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America to speak on three panels: Museums X Sustainability, Museums X Innovation and Museum X Youths. Through the Museums X Youths panel, speakers will share their experience working in or visiting museums to help define how museums can better engage with their generation and the issues they care about.

#BUILDECK

Founded in 2014 by a group of artists, designers, public members, and like-minded individuals, DECK is an arts centre for photography in Singapore. It envisions itself as a space where photography and the media arts can grow organically. Previously housed in a container building, it is now fund-raising to build its permanent brick-and-mortar home. To contribute to these efforts, you can donate through the #buyabrick campaign, or make a purchase from their Charity Collection featuring the works of 30 artists from 12 countries, including Singapore artists Ang Song Nian, Geraldine Kang and Robert Zhao Renhui.

Read more about ‘#BUILDECK with us’ here. Give support by buying a brick or purchasing The Charity Collection.
