the WHITE DISTANCE


‘the WHITE DISTANCE’ is the final showcase of Heritage Space’s annual contemporary international art exchange project called ‘Month of Art Practice - MAP 2021’. Initiated by artistic director Nguyen Anh Tuan, the theme is a response to the distances created by the pandemic and reconsiders the gaps in the physical and psychological human life. The online exhibition includes the participation of 20 international artists, including Đặng Hồng Anh, Quỳnh Lâm, Mai Huyền Chi, Lê Xuân Tiến and Lem TragNguyen from Vietnam, who utilise multiple online platforms such as Zoom to present their work.

“lumbung konteks”

documenta fifteen’s public program, titled Meydan, continues after lumbung calling with the new online conversation series ‘lumbung koteks’. In an effort to share stories, songs, and tools for living and working in community, lumbung members are invited to introduce, expand and reflect on each other’s practice to widen their ecosystems. The seven-part online series will take place every first Sunday of the month. The dialogues will delve into topics that address the importance of localities within which we work and the ways that we can learn from each other’s models of education, ecology, and economy.

Ian’s Research Club 01: Jason Wee

A&M released a new podcast series called ‘Ian’s Research Club’ (IRC), created by Ian Tee, Associate Editor, A&M, which extends his long-form interview pieces on the platform. Every fortnight, he speaks to guests from the visual arts community, as well as creative individuals from adjacent industries. In the first episode, Ian speaks with artist and writer Jason Wee about ‘Cruising’, his latest solo exhibition at Yavuz Gallery, ‘The Lines Fall Where They May’ a group show he curated at STPI Gallery, as well as ‘Walk Walk Don’t Run’, an island-wide open studio programme initiated by Grey Projects, founded by Jason.

'Narratives in Malaysian Art' book series free download

Over four volumes, 'Narratives in Malaysian Art' charts the development of visual art in Malaysia through republished texts, essays, conversations and interviews. They are 'Imagining Identities’, 'Reaction', ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Perspective’, collectively edited by Nur Hanim Khairuddin, Beverly Yong, T.K. Sabapathy, Rahel Joseph, Tengku Sabri Ibrahim, Yap Sau Sin and Simon Soon. Each volume explores a facet of Malaysian art. For example, 'Imagining Identities' looks at the growth of art through the exchange of expressions and experiences among Malaysians' diverse lifestyles and cultures, while ‘Perspective’ seeks to motivate new perspectives on art and its relevance in the past, present, and future. Originally published in 2012, the series is now an open-access resource.
