Apocalyptic Smile
In conjunction with the group exhibition ‘A Life Beyond Boundaries (The Geography of Belonging)’ at JWD Art Space, Bangkok, participating artist duo Irwan Ahmett and Tita Salina will perform and provide a lecture on ‘Apocalyptic Smile’ (2020). The event will be hosted by the exhibition curator Loredana Pazzini – Paracciani and joined by art researcher and curator Renan Laru-An as a respondent. The performance is based on the duo’s research on the Ring of Fire, the epicentre of almost all earthquakes in the country. The site of clashing earth plates becomes a symbol of competing ideologies that collide with violent repercussions, like war and peace, colonialism and feudalism.

Curators Talk I Documenta as a Common: ruangrupa/Adam Szymczyk/Nora Sternfeld

Organised by the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg, this talk invites the curators of world art exhibitions documenta 14 and documenta 15. ruangrupa, an Indonesian art collective and curator of documenta 15, speaks with their predecessor Adam Szymczykand. Moderated by Nora Sternfeld, the event will discuss the position of mega-exhibitions in the art world and the value of planning such events.

Intersections of Art, Activism, and Social Justice in the Philippines
In the second iteration of the 100 Days Conference Series, the Transnational Coalition for the Arts collaborates with the Philippine Contemporary Art Network in hosting ‘Intersections of Art, Activism, and Social Justice in the Philippines.’ Joined by noted practitioners such as Pio Abad and Patrick Flores, the online talk will recall the Philippine artistic community’s historic resistance to past oppressive regimes and what can be learned to address the tense political climate under the militant rule of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Wei-Ling Gallery Podcasts
As part of the gallery’s digital programme, Wei-Ling Gallery, Malaysia presents a monthly podcast hosted by founder Lim Wei-Ling and gallery associate Amanda Ariawan. The podcast has delved into contemporary topics such as the budding NFT scene in Asia and the ancient mythological inspirations of Indonesian artist Dadang Christanto work. The most recent Episode 8 ‘Discovering life through art’ features Pakistani sculptor and performance artist Amin Gulgee in a candid conversation about centring himself through his practice during trying times.

ARTJOG MMXXI: Meet the Artist with Agung Kurniawan and Sirin Farid Stevy
As part of their digital programme, ARTJOG MMXXI presents the third ‘Meet the Artist’ with Agung Kurniawan and Sirin Farid Stevy. The two Yogyakarta artists will talk about how their works respond to the contemporary effects of the Indonesian Communist Purge of 1965, intergenerational healing and how the personal becomes political.
