Catherine Lim: The Bondmaid

‘The Bondmaid’ is set during the 1950s in British Malaya, where the author Catherine Lim was born. It focuses on a young Chinese woman named Han, who had been sold as a slave to the House of Wu at the age of four. Although she forms a close bond with the heir of the household, she soon struggles with the stifling and patriarchal traditions of Chinese society.
