Against the usual “see no touch” rule in the art galleries, Supernua® 極度懶散(戻れない) is a participatory installation that welcomes all to use it as deemed fit. Everyone needs a little recharge every once in a while, and I’m glad to be of help.

The suffix “nua” in the artwork title is an English transliteration of various possible Hokkien words: 软 (soft/softened or tender), 懒 (lazing/lazing around) and 烂 (rotten/decomposed), to name a few. It’s an adjective and a verb commonly used in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan to refer to a slack person who loves to relax, chill, idle and laze around. For example, “Today’s a Sunday, just let me nua on my bed for ten more minutes” (source: tripzilla.com). The logo design parodies that of the UK-based fashion label Superdry®. I superlike this brand and trust they would likewise enjoy my flattering twist in good humour.
