Fresh Take 2025 Writing Contest

Fresh Take seeks aspiring art writers

A&M’s ‘Fresh Take’ writing contest returns for its sixth iteration in 2025.

We would like to invite early-career writers to write critically and/or creatively in response to the Southeast Asian art scene. We welcome art writing in a variety of formats, from traditional pieces such as reviews and critical essays, to creative writing in the form of ekphrasis, poetry, microfiction, creative nonfiction, and more.

Please submit a written response to an exhibition that has taken place between 1 March and 28 September 2025. The submission is to be up to a maximum of 1,000 words. We are looking for a distinct point of view.

Reviews and critical essays are to demonstrate clarity and understanding of how artistic or curatorial practices are situated in their respective contexts.

Creative responses can take a variety of forms, but should aim to add a layer, or develop the creative imaginings of the exhibition chosen. If your piece has a specific format, please send it as a PDF file.

As far as possible, applicants are to observe the writing style of articles published on artandmarket.net. If images are used, they are to be inserted into the article and captioned according to the A&M house style as well. Each applicant is allowed to submit only one piece of writing.

If you have any questions, please email us at info@artandmarket.net.
