The Custodian’s Eye: A Philippine Interior Sale

ANNEXE and Lumena Auctions present The Custodian’s Eye: A Philippine Interior Sale, a live and online auction of Philippine modern art, sculpture, and rare nineteenth- and twentieth-century colonial furniture.

Assembled over a shared lifetime of dedicated collecting, this extraordinary group of works comes to market as its original steward embarks on a new chapter following the passing of her husband, a former top financial executive. The Custodian’s Eye celebrates the collection's history—offering family, friends and discerning buyers a chance to reminisce, honour precious memories, and pass these treasured pieces to their next caretakers. The exhibition and auction take place in a private residence at 313 Santiago Street in Ayala Alabang Village.

Exhibition viewings will be held on 22 and 29 August, and from 2 to 4 September, culminating in an on-site live auction on 5 September 2026. A subsequent online-only sale consisting of more works from the collection takes place from 6 to 13 September. 

Rather than separating art from the life around it, The Custodian’s Eye considers a collection as a lived environment: a gathering of objects chosen over time for their visual force, material character and place within the home. The sale is also a trace of the lives and personal histories of its owners, remembered and celebrated once more.

Highlight artworks include those by leading masters such as Arturo Luz, Abdulmari Imao, Ramon Orlina, Norma Belleza, Onib Olmedo, Federico Alcuaz and Teodoro Buenaventura.

The sale also includes an ultra-rare Mariposa sofa from the Ah Tay workshop, dating to the third quarter of the nineteenth century; a Carlos Trece settee; cómodas associated with Bohol, Ilocos, Batangas, and Laguna; altar tables; and other furnishings that speak to the evolution of the Philippine interior.
